Frequently Asked Questions
Please check your local fire department rules and regulations regarding portable outdoor fireplaces. In most states, you can legally use Elemental in the backyard of your single-family home. ONLY USE ELEMENTAL OUTDOORS at least 2 feet away from structures, brush, and low-hanging branches."
Make sure to secure your tent to the ground to prevent it from tipping over in the wind! The tent features a skirt running along both the inside and outside. It's advisable to weigh down the skirt with items such as cinder blocks, bricks, rocks, etc. Additionally, it comes with ground stakes and ropes for further securing.
No. Elemental is constructed from Oxford 210D Nylon, which is rated to withstand temperatures up to 300°F. This means it won't melt or emit chemicals at temperatures of 200°F (approximately the highest temperature our saunas reach). The tent windows are made of high-temperature performance TPU. We have rigorously tested Elemental using the highest quality, USA NIST calibrated equipment on the market from Forensics Detectors. Our test results indicate that when Elemental is heated to 200°F, there are no detectable concentrations of CO or VOCs present in the air.
Yes, you can leave it permanently set up. Elemental is made from a durable, weather-resistant fabric and includes a weatherproof roof cover. However, we do recommend packing it up for storage indoors during periods of extreme weather.
Elemental does not emit odors, and cleaning is minimal. Moisture typically runs down the sides of the tent walls, but you can simply spray it down with a hose if necessary!
Elemental measures 6ft (L) x 6ft (W) x 7ft (H). The tent skirt that runs along the outside of the tent adds another 6 inches to the footprint on each side.
When you are initially starting the fire, fully open the rectangular air intake vent at the bottom of your tent to ensure a constant flow of fresh air into the stove. Also, make sure the stove’s air control vent located on the debris tray is in the open position to allow maximum air intake. Then, ignite a fire in the stove using fire starter pellets/squares and 1 piece of dry hardwood firewood (maximum length of 16 inches - we recommend using 12-inch pieces). Close the stove door and latch it shut. Allow the fire to establish for about 15 minutes, then open the stove door and add 1-2 additional pieces of wood. Close the stove door and latch it shut once more. Wait another 15 minutes. At this point, your Elemental should be comfortably hot (between 180°F-200°F). You can now slide the air control vent into a halfway open position to control the burn rate of your fuel.
Yes, it is normal and expected for the metal stove and chimney pipe to become red hot during use. There is no need to worry; your stove can handle it, and there is no danger. If the red glow causes any concerns, you can simply restrict the airflow to the stove to slow down the burn rate.
